Somalia: Prime Minister Roble meets with UN Special Representative James Swan

 

Tuesday, October 27, 2020. The Prime Minister of the Federal Republic of Somalia Mohamed Hussein Roble today received in his office the Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Somalia, Ambassador James Swan.

During the meeting, the two leaders discussed issues such as elections, security and international cooperation in Somalia.

The meeting comes after James Swan said the international community's wishes were not wanted in Somalia. The ambassador pointed out that the current elections in Somalia are not in the interest of Somali people and the way forward, and that the international community wanted transparent and credible elections. This has created fear in the Farmajo government and the new prime minister, who has no political experience and has a difficult task ahead.

Prime Minister Roble thanked the United Nations for its efforts in Somalia, including elections and security. According to reports, the international community disappointed with Farmajo's government, which for four years has failed to secure the country and bring about significant change in the country.

Representative of the UN Secretary General for Somalia, Ambassador James Swan said that the UN always stands with Somalia, and Somalia officials requires expediting the tasks ahead.

Since his appointment, the Prime Minister of the Federal Government of Somalia, Mohamed Hussein Roble, has been holding various meetings with representatives of the international community, discussing Somalia, particularly elections and security.
