  French Prime Minister Jean Castex said on Wednesday that the law which strengthens the principles of the Republique, and presented on Wednesday, is not "against religion," but targets "the pernicious thought that bears the name of extremist Islam." According to Agence France Press, after the cabinet meeting, Castex reaffirmed that this law is not a text against religions, or Islam in particular. He stressed that "on the contrary, it is a law of freedom, a law of protection and a law of emancipation in the face of religious fundamentalism." The law came after a series of bloody attacks in response to cartoons featuring the Prophet Muhammad published by Charlie Hebdo. The newspaper was already the target of an attack in 2015.
