Nizar Banat: Palestinian activist's family asks ICC to probe death

  Nizar Banat, an outspoken critic of the Palestinian Authority (PA), was beaten on the head and body during   a raid in June 2021 in the occupied West Bank . His family urged the ICC to prosecute those responsible, saying they had lost confidence in the PA's judiciary. It is the first time a Palestinian has referred their leadership to the court. The PA has not commented on the move, but it has apologised for Banat's death and charged 14 low-ranking security officers with taking part in the beating and other offences.  Banat, who was 42, was known for social media posts in which he accused powerful individuals of corruption and called on Western countries to stop providing financial assistance to the PA, which governs parts of the West Bank that are not under full Israeli control. Iran urged to stop its imprisonment and harassment of Kurdish journalists

  I want to share this intriguing news reports and sources familiar with the cases as saying that Iranian authorities had arrested at least eight Kurdish journalists since May 2020. The Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) is urging Iran to stop its imprisonment and harassment of Kurdish journalists amid what human rights groups have denounced as a crackdown on members of the minority group. CPJ’s call comes three months after 36 civil society and human rights organizations denounced “an ongoing wave of arbitrary arrests, incommunicado detention, and enforced disappearances by the Iranian authorities” targeting Iran’s “disadvantaged” Kurdish minority. The groups said that at least 96 members of the community had been arrested since the beginning of the year, including civil society activists, environmentalists, writers, university students, and “individuals with no known history of activism.”.
