Supercomputer helps researches in identifying chemicals to create coronavirus vaccine

To combat the ongoing global health crisis, human and artificial intelligence came together to work towards creating a vaccine to cure coronavirus. The world’s most powerful supercomputer, Summit, aided researchers in identifying chemical compounds which could be used to build a vaccine.  Summit, IBM’s fastest supercomputer built with ‘Brain of AI’ observed about 8000 simulations out of which it identified 77 drug compounds which could be used to build an effective chemical combination to stop the infected cells from spreading. This research was undertaken by researchers at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, who published their study in the journal ChemRxiv. These findings would form base for the future studies and would prove to be a crucial step in developing a vaccine. However the journey of reaching the final vaccine is still not that close.  “Our results don’t mean that we have found a cure or treatment for the coronavirus,” Jeremy Smith, director of the University of Te

The research by Melbourne's Peter Doherty Institute for Infection and Immunity has been praised by other experts, with one calling it "a breakthrough". The group of experts has discovered that there are actually four types of immune cells that can wade off the novel virus. Covid-19 threatens to leave thousands of Philippines working abroad stranded and disrupt the flow of remittances

By Victoria Hudson. An archipelago of 100 million souls and 7000 islands is witnessing the rapid diffusion of Coronavirus cases. The Philippines are preparing to isolate the entire huge metropolitan area of Manila with its 12 million inhabitants for 30 days. The Philippine Department of Health has announced that there are 34 new cases confirmed, bringing the total number to 111 with an escalation since last Thursday, and at least 8 victims. These figures are still far from creating alarm, but the case of Italy, where many Filipino migrants live, has alarmed the authorities and from Sunday to midnight the great metropolis cannot be reached, nor can we leave except in emergencies such as the workers and the "essential" movements of supplies and medical teams. Congress endorses limits on Trump’s actions against Iran

The House of Representatives of the US Congress, controlled by Democrats, approved on Wednesday a resolution limiting the powers of President Donald Trump in the use of armed forces against Iran.  In mid-February, the Senate of the American legislature approved the initiative. The initiative was approved by 227 congressmen, 186 legislators spoke out against. Now the resolution is being sent to the head of state’s table, which, as the White House said earlier, intends to veto it.  Democrats currently do not have enough votes in the Republican-controlled upper house of Congress to overcome the presidential veto. The resolution obliges the president not to start military operations against Iran and on its territory until the US administration receives the appropriate permission from Congress, or an “imminent attack on the United States” occurs.  If military operations against Iran have already been launched, the resolution orders the US administration to stop them within 30

America Might Have Go On A Lockdown

America might have to follow suite with Italy and close down some cities and towns in order to run the whole quarantine.  Apparently, Scott Gottlieb, who was Trump’s first commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration has argued for similar measures in the U.S. “No state and no city wants to be the first to basically shut down their economy. But that’s what’s going to need to happen. States and cities are going to have to act in the…national interest right now to prevent a broader epidemic. Close businesses, close large gatherings, close theaters, cancel events,” said Gottlieb. Speaking over the necessity to a close down, Jay Shambaugh, director of the liberal Hamilton Project think tank has also substantiated that the federal government should immediately increase its share of Medicaid spending by 10 percentage points, relieving states that face rising costs and falling revenue from the virus. “That would be around $60 billion going out to the states. That would be a mean

Belgium Finds Out Workable Solution To Butter Fat

Scientists in Belgium are now coming up with the most environment friendly fat substitute to a dairy derivative. Scientists at Ghent University in Belgium have discovered that larvae fat can actually replace butter fat used extensively in products like muffins, cookies, waffles and cakes.  They are trying to determine if the grease from larvae can actually replace dairy fat, as a result reducing pressure on farm animals and the ecosystem too.  The first experiment happened with soaked Black soldier fly larvae that was blended in a bowl of water, to create a smooth grayish dollop from which insect butter was extracted through a kitchen centrifuge. According to the same research group, insect fats have far more nutritional benefits that we can imagine. For one, they are more sustainable because (insects) use less land (than cattle), they are more efficient at converting feed and they also use less water to produce butter. The substitute can actually have a huge imp

But we have not heard anything about its cancellation," considering that the European Union has "so far"
