Sunday, October 25, 2020. Al-Shabaab fighters have taken
control of Gurya-samo resident on the outskirts of Lasqoray district in Sanaag
region. The militants have reportedly taken control of the area, 90 kilometers
from Erigavo, the capital of Sanaag region.
An armed group of about 50 terrorist fighters arrived in
Gurya-samo area yesterday afternoon, where they set up military bases.
Al-Shabaab militants described the operation in the area as a
military operation against armed civilians, detaining some civilians and
arresting various people.
In recent times, a terrorist organization has spread to other
parts of the country, and it is feared that al-Shabaab will return to power.
Attacks are on the rise in cities such as the capital Mogadishu. They also seem
to be returning to power with funding from foreign governments.
If it is true that these groups have entered the Sanaad
region, it will be difficult to oust them from these areas, as the region is
mountainous,. The settlement of Gurya-samo is a strategic area in the Calmadow
Mountains.
However, the Farmajo government that would have liberated the
country from these extremists is busy with elections and extensions. It has
wasted almost 4 years of corruption, repression of the media and confrontation
between communities and fears of al-Shabaab are growing.
