Since the dispute over the election commissions sparked controversy between the government and opposition parties, there have been international and local calls for the government to change the way it nominates the commissions. The international community and Somali stakeholders have urged Farmajo to come up with a calm environment to resolve the dispute, and to accept changes to the electoral commissions, which are said to include members of the army, intelligence and civil servants.
