  Saudi envoy to the United Nations, Abdallah Al-Mouallimi, has called the Security Council to include the Yemeni Houthi group on the list of terrorist organizations, saying this has become an urgent and necessary matter. Speaking at the Security Council special session on the Yemeni crisis earlier this week, Al-Mouallimi said the Houthi militia has refused to extend the truce for “political ambitions and reasons”, while the international community has offered the group’s leaders a new opportunity to respond to peace efforts. He pointed out that the Security Council has failed to take a position on the atrocities committed by the Houthi militias against the Yemenis. “Classifying the Houthi militia as terrorists has become an urgent and necessary matter,” he stressed. The US has accused Ebrahim Raisi, the country's former chief justice of Iran of human rights violations. According to Rostam Ghasemi, a senior official in the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and Iran’s former economy minister that Iran supplied Yemen’s Houthi rebels with weapons technology that helped the militants to attack Saudi Arabia. His admission is the first time Iran has confirmed it is helping the Houthis militarily. “We helped them with weapons manufacturing technology but the actual production of weapons is done in Yemen. They produce the weapons themselves. These drones and missiles are made in Yemen,” he said. “There is no need to send weapons.” “Iran’s support for Yemen is political support,” the ministry said. “We have provided weapons in a very limited way. We have provided more consultations compared to supplying weapons to Yemen,” he said. The Houthis escalated attacks against Saudi Arabia in recent weeks, increasingly taking aim at civilian infrastructure.

I wanted to share something intriguing about what I read today. It's about Yemen’s Houthi group said on Friday it hit a facility belonging to the state-controlled oil giant Saudi Aramco in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in an attack comprising six drones. The Iran-aligned group’s military spokesman Yahya Sarea did not give further details about the targets he said were hit. He also added that operations against Saudi Arabia will continue and escalate as long as Saudi “aggression” against Yemen continues. In recent weeks, the Houthis have stepped up attacks into Saudi Arabia, the world’s №1 oil exporter. He also warned “foreign companies and citizens” to avoid military sites and key infrastructure.

  I want to share about the sequence of incidents that happened recently during the third full week of the Biden administration's existence is very unfortunate. It started with the announcement by the US government that it would exclude the Houthis from its list of terrorist groups, and was followed by that group's eventual attack on Abha International Airport in Saudi Arabia and theories about what Robert Malley, the pro-Iranian political advisor, is trying to do to harmonize American-Iranian relations.   Looking at it, incorrect moves are risky components of what seems to be a very troublesome approach to Iran and Yemen by the White House. It is really necessary for President Joe Biden and his Middle East team at the beginning to consider the limitations of their approach towards the Houthis and Iran toward reconciliation. None of them want US compromises, they want an American defeat.
