Some 200 people missing after boat sinks off the coast in Yemen

  United Nations and Yemeni officials revealed around 200 people are presumed to miss after their boat capsized off the coast of Yemen this week. An official said that people who were on that board have been missing since Sunday. This was carrying mainly Africans from the Horn of Africa, as well as some Yemenis. Bodies of 25 people were recovered off Yemen from the boat that was carrying 200 people.   Few fishermen found the bodies floating in the waters of Ras al-Ara in the southern province of Lahij. That place is very secluded from the main city and is known for human trafficking that the locals call the “Gate of Hell". 43 Migrants headed to Europe drown as they leave Libya

  Migrants who were headed for Europe travelled off the coast of Libya through to the Mediterranean Sea drowned midway. As per latest reports, 43 migrants have drowned with the boat that capsized on Wednesday. The United Nations migration agency confirmed the news saying that the ship indeed overturned on January 20. The international agency said that the ‘tragic’ incident was the first maritime disaster of 2021 that involved migrants, those seeking better lives in Europe. Last year, many such incidents occurred where those seeking to go to Europe and start their new lives in the continent away by an ocean from a distance, lost their lives. The European Union has stepped up and partnered with Libya’s coast guard and their local groups to stem the sea crossing. Many of the human rights groups do not approve of these policies compiled by the EU saying that they make locals more vulnerable to the armed groups and subject them to confinement and abuses.
