Nizar Banat: Palestinian activist's family asks ICC to probe death

  Nizar Banat, an outspoken critic of the Palestinian Authority (PA), was beaten on the head and body during   a raid in June 2021 in the occupied West Bank . His family urged the ICC to prosecute those responsible, saying they had lost confidence in the PA's judiciary. It is the first time a Palestinian has referred their leadership to the court. The PA has not commented on the move, but it has apologised for Banat's death and charged 14 low-ranking security officers with taking part in the beating and other offences.  Banat, who was 42, was known for social media posts in which he accused powerful individuals of corruption and called on Western countries to stop providing financial assistance to the PA, which governs parts of the West Bank that are not under full Israeli control. Some 200 people missing after boat sinks off the coast in Yemen

  United Nations and Yemeni officials revealed around 200 people are presumed to miss after their boat capsized off the coast of Yemen this week. An official said that people who were on that board have been missing since Sunday. This was carrying mainly Africans from the Horn of Africa, as well as some Yemenis. Bodies of 25 people were recovered off Yemen from the boat that was carrying 200 people.   Few fishermen found the bodies floating in the waters of Ras al-Ara in the southern province of Lahij. That place is very secluded from the main city and is known for human trafficking that the locals call the “Gate of Hell". The UN's International Organisation for Migration (IOM) tweeted stating that they have verifying reports of a capsized vessel and that its teams were ready to respond to the needs of survivors.   However, sensing a threat from human trafficking perspective too, officials are still searching for bodies in the water and at nearby shores.
