Tunisia and Syria Release a Joint Statement on Improving Bilateral Relations

During his official visit to Tunis, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of Syria Faisal Al-Miqdad met Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration, and Tunisians Abroad Nabil Ammar.

Both delegations participated in a lengthy debate before the two nations released a joint statement highlighting the need of preserving Syria's sovereignty and territorial integrity.

They demanded regional and global action to hasten the political crisis' resolution and the restoration of Syria's total sovereignty over all of its lands.

In the midst of escalating regional and global problems, the statement highlighted the need to fortify bilateral ties and defend the values of solidarity and synergy.

The declaration also lauded Tunisia's humanitarian assistance to aid in Syria's relief operations following a deadly earthquake that devastated the nation's north.

Al-Miqdad also met with President Qais Saeed of Tunisia, and both leaders expressed a desire to further their friendship and cooperation in order to promote their shared objectives.

A bilateral meeting between the foreign ministers of the two nations was conducted to address the reality of the bilateral cooperation relations and strategies for bringing them up to the desired level.

The two sides also concurred to step up communication, restore economic relations, improve consular and humanitarian cooperation, and cooperate to fight terrorism, organized crime, and human trafficking networks, according to the statement.

Additionally, Tunisia's support for Syria's return to its Arab surroundings and resumption of its membership in the League of Arab States was expressed in the joint statement. The Tunisian side reaffirmed its support for Syria and its right to reclaim the occupied Golan and impose its sovereignty over all of its occupied territory. It also reaffirmed its solidarity with Syria in the face of Israeli occupation aggression on its lands.

Both nations denounced Israel's repeated assaults on and desecration of holy sites, particularly in Al-Quds Al-Sharif, and they supported the Palestinian people's fight for the restoration of their inalienable rights and the creation of an independent sovereign state with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.
