Ramadan 2023: Over 2.5 million people attend conclusion of Quran recitation at Grand Mosque

 


More than 2.5 million people gathered at the Grand Mosque in the holy city of Mecca in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on the 29th night of the holy month of Ramadan to perform Isha and Taraweeh prayers as well as watch the conclusion of Quran recitation.

According to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), people started gathering at Masjid al-Haram (the Great Mosque of Mecca) in the early hours of the day on Wednesday. Sheikh Abdulrahman Al-Sudais, a leading imam of the Grand Mosque, led prayers on the 29th night of the holy month of Ramadan. He called on Allah to protect Saudi Arabia and all Muslim countries from evil. He prayed for the stability and safety of the region.

The General Presidency for the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque in the Kingdom said that the government agency implemented all necessary procedures and services to ensure the safety of the worshippers.

The worshippers performed the Isha prayer, Taraweeh prayer, and Qiyam Al Layl on Wednesday. .The General Presidency for the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque helped worshippers to pass through the three gates of the Grand Mosque. The 21st, 23rd, 25th, 27th and 29th nights of the holy month of Ramadan have great importance for Muslims.

SPA noted that 43 million worshippers visited the Grand Mosque in Mecca and the Prophet's Mosque in Medina during the first 20 days of Ramadan. The sacred month of Ramadan began on March 23 in Saudi Arabia. Muslims across the world came to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to perform Umrah during the sacred month of Ramadan.

Sheikh Abdul Rahman Al-Sudais said that over 21 million worshipers performed prayers at the Prophet’s Mosque in the first 20 days of Ramadan. He further said that more than 22 million Muslims prayed at the Grand Mosque in the first 20 days of Ramadan.
