Turkish government nears collapse as senior officials quit the ruling party

Certain decision taken by the ruling party of Turkey and the president Recep Tayyip Erdogan has not only received criticism from all around the world but also from its senior most party members.

According to media reports, Senior Turkish officials have criticized many decisions taken by the ruling AKP party as the differences between the two breakaway parties grow. These parties, which hold the deciding factor in the system, are DEVA and Future. Future party is one of the key participants in the matter despite it being a new player in the game. The party was formed in 2019 by former Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu.

The cracks in the Turkish government are out in the open as this week itself, the former deputy prime minister and Presidential High Advisory Board member, Bulent Arinc resigned from the position due a dispute with Erdogan.

Erdogan has been time and again blamed for his authoritarian approach even within the senior officials which results in the leaders souring their bonds, relations with the leader of the ruling party.

The resignation came after Erdogan was upset over the remarks made by the advisory board member where he criticized the imprisonment of Kurdish politician Selahattin Demirtas and another prominent businessman and a civil society figure Osman Kavala.

“Turkey’s judiciary, economy and other areas evidently need reforms. There is a need for our country to relax and to find a solution to our nation’s troubles. I decided that it would be more appropriate for me to leave my position as a member of the High Advisory Board,” he said on Twitter.

Apart from his political relationships, Erdogan’s family relationships are not doing any good as well. A few weeks earlier, Turkish President’s son-in-law Berat Albayrak also resigned from his position of finance minister and also made it noticeable through his social media handle, which made it clear that the relations are deteriorating.

As for Arinc, he spoke about the decision to defend the release of the two social figures on television. This was harshly criticized by Erdogan later on.

Demirtas has been put behind the bars on allegations of supporting terrorism, He was jailed in November 2016 and the charges on him are of 142 years of imprisonment. The decision was reportedly influenced by Erdogan.

Arinc supported their release saying that the arrest should not be turned into a punishment and he also advised people of reading of Demirtas story book--Devran--to understand the life of Kurdish people.
