Turkey keeps the diplomatic game string with agreeing to support whoever wins elections

The United States is yet to announce its President ahead of the official number being released, Turkey’s president Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has extended support to whichever candidate wins the elections.

Two of the Turkish officials on Friday confirmed that despite Erdogan’s friendship with the current president Donald Trump, they will extend their cooperation in working with whoever is elected. “Regardless of which candidate takes office in the US, we will pursue a sincere approach to improve our relations,” Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said.

There have been a few changes in the relationship between the NATO allies--Turkey and the US. There have been some disagreements between the two while discussing policies and actions in Syria. Last few years have also seen closer ties between Russia and Turkey especially when it comes to supporting rebel groups in war torn countries of Syria and Libya.

Turkey officials said that they have experience in working with both democrats and republicans. This came after the democratic candidate Joe Biden took a narrow lead on Friday as he captured a few of the major states in the US elections.  “Of course, individuals have an impact, positive and negative. The sincere friendship between our president and Mr. Trump continued through the most difficult times,” Cavusoglu said.

Experts however say that if Biden is elected, the economy of Turkey may suffer further, which already at its all time low against dollar, and ties will be affected further. The Vice President calls all these allegations baseless as he says that no country will exclude Turkey from its foreign policy because now Turkey holds an important position. He further added that Ankara will no more shrink or be scared of sanctions here on.

The US Turkey relations have seen a downfall since last year and even as the officials scrap the reports, Turkey was earlier threatened by the Trump administration for purchasing weapons or armor from Russia but it was later on decided to not to impose these sanctions.

Ankara has also denounced the United Arab Emirates normalizing ties with Israel and recognizing the country even though the peace deal was essentially brokered by the US. These things have certainly gone down well with the US government.

But somehow, Trump has been neglecting all these situations and continued trusting Turkey on various matters but with Biden in power, it will not be possible. Biden will definitely take a different approach from Trump and be stricter on the Erdogan led nation.
