After invading privacy of women, Qatar finally finds abandoned child’s mother

Qatar authorities have released a statement saying that they have identified the parents of the baby found near a garbage tin in an Airport in Qatar. The matter received a lot of attention worldwide because the Qatari authorities were accused of sexually assaulting women belonging from different nationalities and especially triggered people in Australia.

More than a dozens of women were invasively searched in the airport where the Qatari authorities found an abandoned baby and targeted women from around 10 flights and examined them without their consent to identify if they were the ones to leave the baby behind.

On Monday, a statement released by the Qatari prosecutor read that an unspecified number of Qatar airport staff and authorities were detained for carrying out these examinations. These authorities can be charged with sentences up to three years in prison.

As for the identity of the mother, the prosecutor revealed that she has been charged with attempt to murder for leaving the child in such a state. The prosecutor also said that the mother of the baby has been identified to be of Asian nationality and nothing else has been revealed. If convicted, she could face up to 15 years of prison.

As per reports, the mother boarded a flight from Qatar to another country and escaped through the authorities. On October 2 the infant was found and the authorities said that it was either found in or outside the trash can in Hamad International airport in Doha.

Following this incident, 13 Australian women along with other women boarding different flights were taken for private examination to confirm if the child was hers. This led to mass criticism and anger as people from various spheres categories the act as shameful where women are subjected to sexual assault.

Even for the reason it was being done, the act done without their consent does not justify anything, said experts. The Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison called it completely unacceptable and denounced the incident as ‘appalling’.

Further investigations also revealed that authorities had summoned female staff at the airport to examine these women. On this the prosecution said, "(They believed) that what they were doing was in conformity with the law.”

"While departing the country, the mother threw the newborn child in the trash of one of the bathrooms of the airport's departure hall, and boarded the plane to her destination," the statement said.

The prosecutor added that the woman was in a relationship with an unnamed man, who is also reportedly of Asian nationality, and the child is the result of the relationship. It is a offense in Qatar to have sex with a person outside of marriage and due to this act, it not so uncommon for women to abandon their kids.

"The crime of attempting to kill an infant immediately after birth, and in the circumstances in which she was found, is one of the most heinous crimes and most contrary to human values. It is punishable by the Qatari Penal Code, with a maximum of fifteen years," the statement read
