During a meeting with the French ambassador to Iraq, Eric
Chevalier, the Iraqi minister of foreign affairs, Fuad Hussein, discussed
several topics of joint cooperation with France, according to the state news
agency (INA).
Hussein and Chevalier discussed ways to advance bilateral
relations in a variety of areas, particularly in the areas of economic,
investment, cultural, and security cooperation, as well as the fight against
terrorism, according to a statement from the Iraqi Foreign Ministry's
spokesperson, Ahmed Al-Sahaf.
Moreover, the meeting also covered the outcomes of the recent
trip to France by a delegation of Iraqi officials led by Prime Minister
Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, which included signing a number of agreements
pertaining to fighting corruption, recovering Iraqi funds, safeguarding
antiquities, advancing scientific research, and training diplomats.
Earlier, Al-Sudani and Emmanuel Macron of France inked a
strategic partnership deal.
The French President announced on January 17 that Macron met
with Al-Sudani and reached a number of strategic agreements intended to improve
commercial ties between France and Iraq.
According to a statement from the Elysee Palace, the two nations
reached an agreement at the meeting with the goal of enhancing their bilateral
ties in the areas of culture, security, renewable energy, and anti-corruption.
