Who does Hezbollah eye next? Is Qatar deciding the next attack?

It has been revealed that Qatar’s royal family has been funding global terror group Hezbollah and after this report was released by the Fox news, Qatar came under heavy scrutiny and the west was suggesting some strong steps to counter this terror funding process. If this stands true, Hezbollah will be looking to take on Qatar’s enemy for funds.

Sparks about Qatar funding started in 2017 when one of the news agencies posted an article praising Iran, also one of the many places Hezbollah takes claim for, and criticised the United States for the sanctions and strict policy implementation on Iran. Gradually, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt and Saudi Arabia severed their diplomatic ties with Qatar.

Now with the revelations in the reports, 10,000 US troops hosted by Doha at Al Udeid base and with the current outing of the dossier, the lives of these US troops are put in danger. They also have a headquarters of US Central Command.

Hezbollah has been listed as designated terrorist group by the US and the United Kingdom and not to forget that the UK is one of the nations that has strong opposition towards terrorism. British parliamentary Ian Paisley Jr, who is infamous for tracing terrorism financing, also strongly condemn this situation and asked for stricketer action to be taken. "These allegations are very serious, particularly given that the ambassador is ambassador to Nato, and this should be investigated and appropriate action taken.”

Earlier this year, an American photojournalist was tortured by a Syrian militia group which was funded by Qatar Islamic Bank and the journalist went on to sue the bank for funding terror groups. This was one of those incidents that promoted a more popular opinion in the west that prompted European Union to freeze such suspicious Qatari bank accounts.

What sparked more criticism was the involvement of Qatari ambassador for Belgium, Abdulrahman bin Mohammed Al Khulaifi, covering up for the royal family and being their source of money laundering from the first to end party. Nathalie Goulet, a French senator said that the incident brought Qatar into bad light  and spoiled its reputation and her statement is justified in a way as Qatar is now touted as the nation that supports terrorism for power.

She further added, “The Belgium Ambassador [could] send money to Germany and then Germany would also have these kinds of problems.”

One of the most shocking revelations of the dossier was that charity organisations were used to transfer money to Hezbollah inBeirut, Lebanon. The two charities that were involved in this were Sheikh Eid bin Mohammed Al Thani Charitable Association and the Education Above All Foundation.

Qatar is now handling itself free and this means that the country is afraid of nothing. If everything that is revealed through the dossier is true, then it high time to stop funding terrorism and if Qatar is not doing it on its own the it should be made to do it. Stronger and stricter policies by the European Union has to enforced on Qatar to remain cuffed and be leash free in doing the damage especially when it comes ot terrorism.
