Turkey adamant over conducting military exercise off Northwest Cyprus, ignores EU’s warnings

As the tensions between Turkey and Greece grow, former is adamant on conducting the military exercises off Northwest Cyprus for the next two weeks despite the region being a disputed area over the exploration rights in the east Meditaranian.

Interestingly, both Greece and Turkey are NATO members which means their motive should be to safeguard allie’s freedom be it political or military and Turkey has been single handedly destroying the deal. This dispute was ignited when the two countries had agreed to the rival accords on their maritime boundaries with Libya and Egypt and just after that, Ankara sent a survey vessel into the disputed waters.

After things escalated, the European Union had to meddle in between the nation and give a warning to Turkey to halt its drilling activities in the contested waters and take a step back from causing any more troubles. The EU also asked to identify the Turkey officials involved in this energy exploration process and blacklist them as soon as possible. The foreign policy chief, Joseph Borrell also expressed his frustration in dealing with Turkey as the nation continues its practices despite warnings and threats. He said that sanctions that include asset freezing and travel bans will be extended and also Turksih vessels will be deprived of european ports, supplies and equipment if the said is not done. “Turkey has to abstain from unilateral actions. This is a basic element to allow the dialogue to advance,” Borrell told reporters in Berlin.

There will be a summit in Brussels next month where it will be decided whether to impose the sanctions on Turkey or not on not following orders and disrupting the peace of the region. Borrell said that the EU does hope for a healthier relationship with Ankara and would like to give a serious chance to dialogue but we must focus on saving our common interests as a union.

Both the countries are to be blamed for the situation with differing in the ratios of involvement as both have held military exercises in the east Mediterranean which escalated the dispute and one started to get ahead of the other. It was only two-weeks ago when the Greek and Turkish frigates collided and the defense ministry of Turkey gave a statement saying that they prevented six Greek F-16s entering an area where Turkey was operating.

Al Gore has history of climate predictions, statements proven false

Noted climate activist and former Vice President Al Gore, who made headlines this week after he claimed   global warming was "boiling the oceans,"   has a history of making climate-related proclamations later proven to be false. During remarks made Wednesday at the  World Economic Forum summit  in Davos, Switzerland, Gore warned that continued carbon emissions into the atmosphere would destroy the planet and lead to widespread calamities. "We’re still putting 162 million tons [of greenhouse gas] into it every single day and the accumulated amount is now trapping as much extra heat as would be released by 600,000 Hiroshima-class atomic bombs exploding every single day on the earth," Gore said. "That’s what’s boiling the oceans, creating these atmospheric rivers, and the rain bombs, and sucking the moisture out of the land, and creating the droughts, and melting the ice and raising the sea level, and causing these waves of climate refugees."
