Cyprus conducts joint military exercises with France

Military exercises called "Talos 1 - 2020" with the participation of the National Guard of the Republic of Cyprus and the French aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle are held in the Eastern Mediterranean.

In the maneuvers that began on Monday morning, air defense systems were used to work out a scenario of actions during a hypothetical attack by external forces on the Republic of Cyprus.  “Today the first phase of joint exercises with France took place, the purpose of which was to attack virtual targets,” the publication quotes the words of the Cypriot Minister of Defense Savvas Angelidis.

The head of the defense department of the island state also said that he expects during a meeting on Tuesday with his French counterpart Florence Parley to discuss the issue of further cooperation between the two countries in the field of security and defense.  "We will have the opportunity to exchange views on assessing risks for the region," said Angelidis.

The Minister of the Armed Forces of France, who arrived in Cyprus on a visit, also has a meeting scheduled with President of the island nation Nikos Anastasiadis on Tuesday.

It is expected that on Friday the French aircraft carrier will dock at the port of the Cyprus city of Limassol and will stay there for five days.  On Saturday, a gala reception should be held on board, which is expected to be attended by Anastasiadis and other representatives of the civil and military authorities of Cyprus, as well as members of the diplomatic corps.

Since Turkey began to carry out drilling operations in the exclusive economic zone (EEZ) of the Republic of Cyprus, official Nicosia has been demonstrating in every possible way that the small island state has many powerful allies and is increasingly attracting EU partners and other allied states to conduct joint military  and search and rescue maneuvers within their EEZ.

Al Gore has history of climate predictions, statements proven false

Noted climate activist and former Vice President Al Gore, who made headlines this week after he claimed   global warming was "boiling the oceans,"   has a history of making climate-related proclamations later proven to be false. During remarks made Wednesday at the  World Economic Forum summit  in Davos, Switzerland, Gore warned that continued carbon emissions into the atmosphere would destroy the planet and lead to widespread calamities. "We’re still putting 162 million tons [of greenhouse gas] into it every single day and the accumulated amount is now trapping as much extra heat as would be released by 600,000 Hiroshima-class atomic bombs exploding every single day on the earth," Gore said. "That’s what’s boiling the oceans, creating these atmospheric rivers, and the rain bombs, and sucking the moisture out of the land, and creating the droughts, and melting the ice and raising the sea level, and causing these waves of climate refugees." Gore then not
