FIFA World Cup 2022: Saudi Arabia defeats Argentina in Group C opener

After falling behind early in its Group C opener against Argentina, one of the favourites to win the FIFA World Cup 2022, Saudi Arabia stunned Lionel Messi and company on Tuesday at the Lusail Iconic Stadium. Argentina, led by Messi, got things going early in the first half with a goal, living up to their reputation as the undisputed favourites at the World Cup in Qatar.

In the 10th minute, Messi, who was in charge of directing Argentina's attack in the tournament's opening match, converted a penalty to give his team a 1-0 lead. After finishing the first half ahead of Saudi Arabia, Messi and co. were predicted to win the game at the Lusail Iconic Stadium. But things quickly turned around for Argentina as the Messi-led squad was stunned by a brilliant equaliser from relative outsiders Saudi Arabia.

Saleh Al-Shehri was able to give Saudi Arabia the lead in the 2022 World Cup in the 48th minute of play. A few minutes later, Saudi Arabia's Salem Al-Dawsari scored the second goal to complete an amazing comeback in the second half, dealing Argentina a serious blow. Saudi Arabia shocked the two-time World Cup champions by taking a shocking 2-1 lead in the opening match of the tournament in Qatar, thanks to goals from Al-Hilal stars Al-Shehri and Al-Dawsari.

After scoring Argentina's world-record goal in the first half, Messi was unable to salvage the former world champions in the second. One of the biggest surprises in FIFA World Cup history was Saudi Arabia's 2-1 victory over the Copa America champions on Tuesday. Argentina's winning streak in international competition was also broken by Saudi Arabia. Argentina, led by Messi, earlier attempted to match Italy's winning streak of 37 games at the Lusail Stadium. Saudi Arabia, which is ranked 51st in the FIFA world rankings, is the second-lowest-ranked team at the World Cup.

Al Gore has history of climate predictions, statements proven false

Noted climate activist and former Vice President Al Gore, who made headlines this week after he claimed   global warming was "boiling the oceans,"   has a history of making climate-related proclamations later proven to be false. During remarks made Wednesday at the  World Economic Forum summit  in Davos, Switzerland, Gore warned that continued carbon emissions into the atmosphere would destroy the planet and lead to widespread calamities. "We’re still putting 162 million tons [of greenhouse gas] into it every single day and the accumulated amount is now trapping as much extra heat as would be released by 600,000 Hiroshima-class atomic bombs exploding every single day on the earth," Gore said. "That’s what’s boiling the oceans, creating these atmospheric rivers, and the rain bombs, and sucking the moisture out of the land, and creating the droughts, and melting the ice and raising the sea level, and causing these waves of climate refugees."
