Elon Musk bans verified Twitter accounts impersonating him, asks for $8 to get access back

After purchasing the social media giant Twitter, Elon Musk brings various changes. Starting with banning accounts impersonating other people. The same method is applied for verified accounts too.

Twitter has banned a few verified accounts with millions of followers. The latest account to be suspended was of US-based comedian Kathy Griffin, who was reportedly impersonating Musk just for fun. Griffin had 2 million followers on Twitter. Her account was verified. Another account with over 90,000 followers on Twitter and a blue tick was also banned reportedly for impersonating him. The verified @iawoolford account of Ian Woolford, an American Australian Hindi professor at La Trobe University in Melbourne, was reportedly impersonating Musk using the Twitter boss profile photo.

Musk said, “Any Twitter handle engaging in impersonation without clearly specifying “parody” will be permanently suspended.”

On Sunday, Musk said that Twitter would ban accounts that impersonate others after many high-profile users changed their names and pictures to match Musk. According to Musk, any name change could lead to a temporary loss of a verified check mark.

The world’s richest man has reportedly said if Griffin pays $8, he will get the account unblocked on Twitter. Responding to a Twitter user, Musk said, “If she really wants her account back, she can have it for $8.”

Twitter has confirmed that it will be charging $8 from users who want a blue tick, fewer ads and premium services. Musk rolled out this plan after purchasing the social media giant.

Reportedly, Twitter will issue the new blue verification check marks to users who pay $7.99 a month starting from November 9.

Last week, Musk bought Twitter after months of uncertainty and speculation. Subsequently, he planned changes to Twitter’s Blue subscription service. After acquiring Twitter, Musk also fired top Twitter executives and some employees.
