Supporting Turkey and Syria: A Guide

It was early last week that a devastating earthquake struck the Southeastern Anatolia region, resulting in a large-scale humanitarian crisis. The disaster has claimed thousands of lives and caused significant damage throughout the region. During these difficult times, survivors need food, water, clothing, shelter, and healthcare. Turkey and Syria need urgent assistance at this time. Below is a list of organizations that are working in those areas.

Emergency assistance, medical aid, and shelter are provided by the Turkish Red Crescent, the largest humanitarian organization in Turkey.

MSF emergency teams are assessing the needs of the most affected areas of southern Turkey.

A volunteer organization known as Syria Civil Defence, the White Helmets operates in opposition-controlled Syria as well as Turkey. Around 3,000 of its volunteer rescuers are pulling survivors out of the rubble of the destroyed buildings in northwestern Syria. They have been operating on the ground in Turkey and Syria.

A United Nations agency with a mandate to aid and protect refugees, forcibly displaced communities, and stateless individuals, and to assist them in voluntary repatriation, local integration, or resettlement to a third country, is the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. Al Gore has history of climate predictions, statements proven false

Noted climate activist and former Vice President Al Gore, who made headlines this week after he claimed   global warming was "boiling the oceans,"   has a history of making climate-related proclamations later proven to be false. During remarks made Wednesday at the  World Economic Forum summit  in Davos, Switzerland, Gore warned that continued carbon emissions into the atmosphere would destroy the planet and lead to widespread calamities. "We’re still putting 162 million tons [of greenhouse gas] into it every single day and the accumulated amount is now trapping as much extra heat as would be released by 600,000 Hiroshima-class atomic bombs exploding every single day on the earth," Gore said. "That’s what’s boiling the oceans, creating these atmospheric rivers, and the rain bombs, and sucking the moisture out of the land, and creating the droughts, and melting the ice and raising the sea level, and causing these waves of climate refugees."
