Turkey has expressed its desire to improve its economic ties with Egypt ahead of Turkish delegations visit to Cairo towards the end of this week. Ankara is trying to repair troubled diplomatic ties with Cairo so that economic benefits can be served for its expansion. The move will reportedly push for bettering diplomatic ties between these two regional powers, said the Trade Minister Mehmet Mus on Monday. Since 2013, the ties between Cairo and Ankara have been strained due to their different regional stances. Egypt’s army was known for its strong opposition towards terrorism and hence they had killed president of Muslim Brotherhood, who was known to be close to Turkish powers. Ankara had termed it as a military coup. The whole incident was responsible for straining ties between the two nations and since then leaderships of either of the nations refrained from visiting each other. But it has come as a surprise after Turkish expressed its interest in repairing ties with Egypt. Mus told in one of the events that the push is not only for improving diplomatic ties but also for strengthening trade and economic ties in coming days. In order to execute strengthening of economic ties, Ankara has been trying to find commonalities between the two. For example, Turkish establishments recently said that there might be some friction in the relationship between the two countries, Cairo is still the biggest African trade partner for it. Ankara and Cairo jointly traded for approximately $4.86 billion last year, which is only down by a dew margin from 2012, which was the year before Turkey's ally Mohamed Mursi was toppled. These comments may be an attempt to settle things with Egypt especially after Turkish delegation is heading towards Cairo this week. The delegation will be headed by deputy foreign minister Sedat Onal, who will be attempting to solve disputes between the two nations. The disputes had further increased after the two countries had backed opposite sides in the Libyan conflict and it is expected that with this meet, there will be some relief in this regard. Turkey’s efforts to better its relations saw a progress when the Turkish foreign minister himself addressed the strained ties saying that he will hold talks with Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry and discuss appointing ambassadors for the two nations following the visit.
